I am very happy to be able to throw my support behind Lee Fairclough. I really believe that Lee has what it takes in terms of leadership and capacity to lead us through these next number of years and such a time of uncertainty. Lee was the Chief Executive and the President of the St. Mary’s General Hospital during the COVID pandemic. She has been a member of the legislature—the fact that Lee has a seat is going to allow her to change the discussion of politics in Ontario. She’s going to be able to take on Doug Ford in the legislature, and she’s in politics because she really believes that there is a way to make change and that government can be a force for good in people’s lives. That’s why she can lead us. That’s why I’m supporting her.

Anybody who meets Lee immediately comes away with the impression that she is thoughtful, serious and honest. My impression has only been solidified by working together with Lee, using our seats in the Legislature to oppose the Ford government at every turn, but always doing politics in a first-class way. In these troubled times, I believe voters want the best politicians to be leading us.
I know Lee will be able to lead a strong and diverse caucus, just as she led St. Mary's General hospital in Kitchener, before being inspired to help fix our healthcare system by entering politics in 2022. She will be a fresh start for the Ontario Liberal Party.

Lee beat a Conservative to win her seat in her home riding of Etobicoke Lakeshore, immediately committing to stay in the fight after a close loss in 2022. She is also a competitor, as a swimmer and as a member of Canada's national women's rugby team. No doubt she has the perseverance and fighting spirit to lead us into the next election campaign and beyond.

As a journalist for more than three decades, I built my career on integrity and holding people in power to account. I questioned them on their policies, plans, and politics. Now, as a sitting MPP choosing a candidate to support for the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party, I applied the same approach. I asked myself who would be best for Ontario. I met Lee years ago when we sat together on the York Community Services Board, and though we only worked together briefly, I got the sense that she was a person of integrity. A few weeks ago, a few friends and I sat down with Lee to talk about the kind of future she envisions for Ontario. I gotta tell you, it was refreshing! She gets that we can build something better. In her first election as an Ontario Liberal Party candidate, Lee faced a strong Progressive Conservative opponent and came up short. But that defeat did not discourage her, it only strengthened her resolve. In the 2025 snap election, held amid a winter snowstorm, Lee surged to victory, helping the Ontario Liberal Party regain official party status. Her resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to her community transformed an initial setback into a remarkable success story.
I am supporting Lee because she stood by the Ontario Liberal Party when it wasn't convenient or politically advantageous to do so. As VP Equity for the Ontario Young Liberals, I spend a lot of time talking to young people across Ontario. We're tired of being told to wait our turn while affordability gets worse, mental health supports fall behind, and too many people are left struggling. Lee believes young people deserve a seat at the table and is ready to do the work to build an Ontario where we can actually see a future for ourselves. That's the kind of leadership I'm proud to get behind.
I've known Lee Fairclough since the pandemic, when we were both working in healthcare in Kitchener. Lee's willingness to collaborate, mentor, and lead when the path wasn't always clear stood out; she created space for every voice to be heard. If I worked under her leadership, would I trust her to protect professional standards? Yes.
Is Lee running for Leader for the right reasons? Yes.
Lee brings something uniquely valuable to leadership: expertise, humanity and a systems-level understanding of how Ontario works.

The next leader of the Ontario Liberal Party needs to be strong, confident and not afraid of hard work. That leader will represent the entire province and not just one region. Doug Ford is failing to deliver for Ontarians. Queen’s Park should also be working with municipalities, not against them, to deliver the critical services and infrastructure our communities need most.

Lee is a strong supporter of our multiculturalism in Ontario and sees our diversity in Ontario and Canada as one of our greatest strengths.
During her years working in health care, she was aware of how culture and language factored into people's care and outcomes. She also championed diversity in the teams working in health care, and enjoyed sharing in the cultural traditions of team members.
As a leader in the multicultural community, I am confident that Lee is the right person to lead the Liberal Party and represent all Ontarians.
I am supporting Lee Fairclough for Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party. I first met Lee when she was the President and CEO of St Mary's Hospital in Kitchener. Lee demonstrated her leadership skills as she navigated her hospital through COVID. She was selected to speak to the media on behalf of all the Waterloo-Wellington hospital CEOs and proved her ability to remain calm and articulate when faced with media pressure.
Lee is a team player, a skill she learned as a member of the Canadian Women's Rugby Team. And growing up in southwestern Ontario and working and travelling throughout Ontario she understands the need to build a Liberal Team that represents all of Ontario.
And finally - Lee already has a seat in the Legislature. She beat an incumbent Tory to win her seat in Doug Ford's Etobicoke stronghold.

Why We Can't Choose a Leader Without a Seat – Again
The old line is that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. What do you call electing a leader for the third time in a row who has no seat, no vote and no voice on the floor, after the last two left us voiceless in the chamber where it matters?
I was a powerhouse in Toronto Centre, right up until I wasn't. As Steven Del Duca and Bonnie Crombie have proved, getting back in the mix can prove a lot harder than you might think. So, if you are going down that path one more time you need to recognize you may be part of the problem.
Nav may be a fine fellow, but the fact of the matter is his lack of a seat in Ontario may make him just as unelectable, regardless of his political successes running with Justin Trudeau back in the day.
By contrast, Lee Fairclough got herself elected on Doug Ford's presumed Etobicoke turf, during an election when his party was ascending. There is no greater consideration in this election for the OLP Leader.
Better still, Lee brings the experience, credibility, and character needed to take on Ford–not only on the campaign trail, but every day in the Legislature.
What do rugby and the Ontario Legislature have in common? Scrums. As a former member of Canada's Women's Rugby Team, Lee knows a thing or two about scrums. And one thing is certain: scrums at Queen's Park are best reserved for players, not public gallery spectators, because the best ones rely on energy carried over from the chamber.
Experience-wise, Lee Fairclough is a healthcare system expert and former hospital president with granular knowledge of how health care works, and an excellent track record of results, burnished during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me a third time? No way. Why take that risk when we have a proven competitor who is already in the arena, not in the stands?
I had the honour of spending more than 25 years in the Ontario Legislature, as an MPP, a Minister and as President of the Ontario Liberal Party, Through it all I gained some real insight into what makes a successful leader. Someone who can chart a course for our province to thrive, someone who can inspire others to perform at their highest and best and someone who, through discussion and debate, draws inspiration from others.
Lee Fairclough is all that and more. She listens and she inspires. She knows politics is a team sport and that a great team needs effective leadership. Ontario needs leadership that understands the critical issues affecting all Ontarians - health care, mental health, the addictions crisis, housing, public transportation.
We need leaders with ground level experience to address the issue and who have the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Lee possesses all of these qualities.
Northern Ontario rural municipalities with little industrial tax base need new funding arrangements with the province. The north needs public transportation, and twinned northern highways. Ontario does not need wasteful spending on Billy Bishop Airport, tunnels under 401, or new super highways.
I endorse Lee Fairclough as the next leader of the Ontario Liberal Party as having the experience, knowledge and wisdom to take Ontario where it needs to go.
