FAQ
Becoming a Member and Voting for Lee
Everything you need to know about Ontario Liberal membership and voting for Lee Fairclough in the leadership race. Membership that carries a vote in this race is closed — if you join now, you will not be able to vote. If you are already a member, online voting runs November 9–20, and we will post the confirmed voting instructions on this page as soon as we have them.
Membership
Who is eligible to become a member?
Membership in the Ontario Liberal Party is open to any person who:
- is fourteen (14) years of age or older;
- is a resident in Ontario;
- supports the purposes of the Party;
- abides by the Constitution and principles of the Party; and
- is not a member of any other provincial political party in Ontario.
Voting eligibility is separate from general membership: for this leadership race, new general memberships did not qualify to vote — the deadline to join and vote as a general member was Monday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m. The only exception was an eligible student club membership (25 and under), and that deadline has also passed.
When is the deadline to register as a member?
New memberships that are eligible to vote in the leadership race are now closed. The general membership deadline was Monday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m. The one exception was for eligible student club members — students 25 years of age or younger in an Ontario Young Liberals campus club — who could join until Friday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m. That deadline has now passed too, so no new membership can vote in this race.
I'm a student — can I still join and vote?
Only if you already joined in time. You must have been 25 years of age or younger and a member of an Ontario Young Liberals campus club, and you needed to have joined by Friday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m. That deadline has passed, so new student memberships can no longer vote in this race — but you can still join the party as a supporter.
Is becoming a member free?
Yes.
How do I register as a member?
Fill out the Ontario Liberal Party's official membership form. It is free, it takes a few minutes, and it is the only way to become a member of the party.
Once you've filled out the Ontario Liberal membership form, click the verification link sent to your email by membership@ontarioliberal.ca to be verified as a member. The link is valid for seven days.
The Ontario Liberal membership form is still open, and joining now makes you a supporter of the party. It will not give you a vote in this leadership race.
I'm not a student — can I still vote by joining now?
No. You can still join the Ontario Liberal Party as a supporter, but new general memberships no longer qualify to vote in this leadership race. The general-member voting deadline was Monday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m. You can still help Lee's campaign by volunteering or donating.
What name should I register under?
Please use the exact name, address, and date of birth that appears on your Ontario Driver's Licence or Ontario Photo Card.
Who can I contact if I have issues registering as a member?
If you receive an error message, need tech support, or require any other assistance, please contact membership@leefairclough.ca.
Voting
Already a member? This is the page where we will publish how you vote. We are confirming the details with the party now, and we will post the confirmed instructions here as soon as we have them — including how you access the ballot, how the ranked ballot works, and what to do if something goes wrong. Please check back.
Can I vote for Lee without being a member?
No. Only Ontario Liberal Party members are eligible to vote for the next leader. Members who joined before the September 7 deadline are all set, as are eligible student club members (25 and under) who joined by Friday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m. Both deadlines have now passed, so no new membership can vote in this race.
I'm a student club member — anything else I need to do?
If you joined by Friday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m., finish your membership by clicking the verification link emailed to you by the Ontario Liberal Party. That deadline has passed, so only members who joined and verified in time will be on the voter list. Student club members must be 25 years of age or younger.
When can I vote?
