How to vote
To vote in the Ontario Liberal leadership election you complete two stages: verify your identity, then vote online by ranked ballot. There are two ways to verify — with the Canada Post Identity+ app on your phone, or in person at a Canada Post location. Only members who have verified their identity can vote.
Important dates
- ID verification: Wednesday, November 4, 9:00 a.m. to Thursday, November 19, 11:59 p.m.
- Voting: Monday, November 9, 12:00 p.m. to Friday, November 20, 5:00 p.m.
The two stages are separate. Expect a wait of 1 to 24 hours between them — if you verify before November 9, your voting email arrives when voting opens.
Which option is yours? Most members can use either. Three exceptions: if you share an email address with another voter, verify in person; if the OLP has no date of birth on file for you, you must use the app; if you have no Ontario driver’s licence or Photo Card, you must verify in person too.
1Find the email from the Ontario Liberal Party
The OLP emails your personal barcode on November 4. Subject line: OLP LEADERSHIP - Start your voting process | Commencez votre processus de vote, from Ontario Liberal Leadership Vote <leadership@ontarioliberal.ca>.
The email that lets you vote has the subject 2026 OLP Leadership Election - Vote Now. If neither email is in your inbox, check spam before contacting the help desk.
2Verify your ID
Verify your identity by Thursday, November 19 at 11:59 p.m. Use one of the two options below — not both.
At Canada Post
Before you leave
- Check the accepted ID documents below. Bring one Option A document proving identity and residence, or two Option B documents: one for identity and one for residence.
- Get your personal barcode from the OLP verification email. Print it or show it on your phone.
- Check that your name, address and date of birth match your OLP membership. If you have moved, contact the help desk at 647-352-9586 or leadership@ontarioliberal.ca before going. Canada Post cannot update your membership.

Sharing an email address with another voter? The app cannot verify you in that case. Verify in person at Canada Post.
What to expect there
At a Canada Post location offering ID verification, tell staff you are there to have your identity verified. Present your personal OLP barcode and ID documents.
On your phone
You need a current Ontario driver’s licence or Ontario Photo Card, and the email address your OLP membership uses.
- If Canada Post Identity+ is already on your phone, uninstall it first, then download it again from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and register with the email on file with OLP — the same address as your membership. Otherwise your verification will not reach the party.
- In the app, enter and confirm the new code sent by Canada Post Identity+.
- In the app, take the selfie (proof of life), then scan your current Ontario driver’s licence or Ontario Photo Card.
- Confirm the verification, then approve sharing with OLP.
Already verified in the app?
The OLP asks every voter to reinstall Identity+ for this verification round. Uninstall it, install it again, and register with your OLP membership email.
If your approved ID is expired or is a different type, add a current Ontario licence or Photo Card when the app asks.
Keep the app installed, and do not change your phone’s security settings, until you have voted.
If the OLP has no date of birth on file for you, the app is your only option — you cannot verify in person.
If your ID is rejected or sharing is not offered, verify in person.
3Wait for the email
The voting email arrives after ID verification and once voting opens. If you verify before November 9, nothing arrives until voting opens at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9. If you verify after voting opens, expect 1 to 24 hours.
Subject line: 2026 OLP Leadership Election - Vote Now. If it has not arrived 24 hours after you verified, check spam, then contact the help desk.
